The Logic in Little Habits
When I’m not using my phone, I keep it face down. Maybe it's because I don't want dust to gather on my screen, or perhaps I just want the display out of sight, but it has always been this way. A couple of days ago, I noticed my wife does the exact opposite. When I asked her why, she replied it was so that the screen doesn't get scratched.
This was interesting because I realized we have another differing opinion on a mundane task: whether to keep clothes folded inside out or right-side out.
When I dry my clothes, I keep them inside out to protect the fabric color from direct sunlight. Once they are dry, I fold and store them while they are still inside out. I don't bother turning them right-side out; to me, clothes folded this way signify that they are clean and ready. My wife, however, thinks the complete opposite. To her, a garment is only "clean" and finished if it is folded right-side out.
I think things like this make me realize how subjective our "logic" really is. It’s fascinating how two people can share the same life and the same space, yet look at the exact same object and see two completely different lenses. These tiny, harmless disagreements don't lead to conflict; instead, they serve as a constant reminder that there is rarely one "right" way to do things, but rather a collection of unique perspectives that somehow manage to fit together.
